Live Chat

Talk with your audience during live streams, reply in threads, mention viewers, and remove messages.

Audience: Creators Status: User Guide

Live chat runs alongside your live streams so you can talk with your audience in real time. You read and join chat from your live dashboard while you broadcast.

Talking with viewers

  • Send messages to the chat like any participant.
  • Reply to a specific message to start a short thread, which keeps related messages together.
  • Mention someone by typing @ and choosing from the suggestions. Recent chatters appear first.

Messages can be up to 500 characters. Subscribers show a subscriber badge next to their name so you can recognize your members.

Moderating chat

You and your organization’s operators are chat moderators (see Team Management for roles). As a moderator you can remove a message from chat, optionally with a reason. Removed messages disappear for everyone watching.

To keep the room readable and curb spam, chat applies a steady rate limit, so no single person can flood it with rapid-fire messages.

Tips for a good chat

  • Answer questions by replying to them, which threads the answer under the question.
  • Recognize regulars and subscribers, who carry a badge.
  • For monetized interaction during a stream, run a poll or invite coin gifts.
