Gift subscriptions let your audience give one of your tiers to someone else. This guide explains how gifting works for your tiers and how the revenue reaches you. To set up tiers in the first place, see Pricing Your Content.
How gifting works
A viewer can buy one of your subscription tiers as a gift for another user. They choose the tier, enter the recipient’s username, and pay through Stripe Checkout. The gift is a one-time payment for the buyer, not a recurring charge to them.
When the payment settles, the recipient is granted a subscription to that tier that lasts one month. The recipient does not need to enter any payment details to receive it. Because it is a one-time gift rather than an ongoing membership, it does not renew on its own. After the month is up, the gifted access lapses unless that person starts their own subscription.
The buyer gifts by username, so they need the recipient’s exact Third Coast TV username. If the username does not match a user, checkout does not start and the buyer sees a « recipient not found » message, so a gift only goes through to a real account.
How gifts appear
A gifted subscriber unlocks your subscriber and tier content for the month of the gift, the same as anyone who subscribed directly. While the gift is active, that person counts as an active subscriber on the tier.
Gifts in your earnings
A gift is audience revenue, so it lands in your earnings ledger like any other payment. The platform collects the gift payment, takes the 8% platform fee, and records the net amount as a pending earning you can pay out.
